Teleworking is a way of organising work that allows employees to carry out their tasks remotely, usually from home, using digital tools. Your employer may therefore ask you whether your home insurance covers this risk. Please note: Lovys offers two types of home insurance policy, with two current insurance partners (Generali and Wakam). For more information, please refer to the special or general conditions of your policy.
GENERALI covers you for teleworking as part of your home insurance policy.
Teleworking is automatically included in your GENERALI home insurance policy. This means that you have no additional steps or options to take out in order to be covered. If you work from home, you benefit from civil liability protection in the context of your professional activity.
What cover does GENERALI offer for teleworking?
The teleworking cover certificate specifies that your home insurance policy includes :
- Civil liability cover for damage caused to third parties in the course of your professional activity at home.
- cover for property entrusted to you by your employer, for which you are responsible, in the event of damage.
Please note: This certificate implies only a presumption of cover and remains limited by the clauses and conditions of your insurance contract. Any modification, suspension, termination or cancellation of the contract could invalidate this cover.
How can I obtain my teleworking cover certificate?
You can easily request your certificate from your online customer area, under ‘my insurance’: click on the ‘document request’ button.
Specific cases
- We are two self-employed entrepreneurs working from home. Are we covered for our computers, which are used for both private and professional purposes? No, the GENERALI contract is intended for risks relating exclusively to residential use and does not cover the professional activities of self-employed people. In this case, insurance dedicated to professional risks would be required.
- What happens if my professional equipment causes damage to my home (e.g. a fire caused by a professional computer)? If damage is caused to your personal property as a result of your professional equipment used for teleworking, this damage is covered by your home insurance (MRH) under your GENERALI policy. However, liability for professional property may require additional cover or may be covered by your employer's multi-risk professional insurance.
WAKAM doesn't cover you for teleworking
If you take out insurance with WAKAM, it is important to know that teleworking is not covered by their comprehensive home insurance policy. WAKAM will still provide you with a certificate acknowledging that you are teleworking, but civil liability for this activity remains the responsibility of your employer.
How do I get my certificate to give to my employer?
You can easily request your certificate from your online customer area, under ‘My insurance’: click on the ‘document request’ button.
