In most cases, yes. But let's take a closer look.

  • For tenants

Home insurance is compulsory for all tenants. You may be refused entry to a property if you do not provide proof of insurance. As a minimum, tenant's home insurance must cover water damage, fire and explosions. We didn't invent this, it's in the law!

  • For free occupants

In this case, it is important to take out home insurance to protect your property and cover your civil liability, even if you are not the owner. Civil liability’ insurance will cover you in the event of damage caused to third parties (fire, water damage, etc.). You can choose a minimum home insurance policy for basic risks, or more extensive cover to include theft and other personal damage.

  • For homeowners

As a homeowner, you are not obliged to take out home insurance. That is, unless your home is part of a co-ownership scheme. If you don't have insurance, you will have to pay for any damage to your property.

  • For non-occupying homeowners

Once again, insurance for homeowners (whether or not they occupy the property) is only compulsory if the property is in a co-ownership. However, if you rent out your home, you will be obliged to take out civil liability insurance.

Is it ok to have two home insurance policies? You are not prohibited from taking out more than one policy. However, it is!
