The Hamon Law or Consumer Law allows you to cancel your home and car insurance contracts, in particular, free of charge and without reason within one year of your subscription.
The Hamon law stipulates :
"For insurance contracts covering individuals outside their professional activities and falling within the branches defined by decree in the Conseil d'Etat, the insured can, at the end of a period of one year from the first subscription, cancel the contracts and tacitly renewable memberships without charge or penalty. Cancellation takes effect one month after the Insurer has received notification of it from the insured, by letter or any other durable medium. »
To be eligible, you must:
be a natural person (not a legal entity)
...wishing to terminate an insurance contract that does not depend on his professional situation
... and have been insured for 12 months or more with your current insurer.
By passing through the Hamon Law, your cancellation is made within a period of one month.
Note that your new insurer can take care of the cancellation procedures with your previous insurer on your behalf. All you have to do is sign a cancellation mandate. This document certifies that you authorise your new insurer to terminate your previous contract.
